Anniversary logo

The anniversary logo is as modular as the rails in a railway line. The rhythm of the differently sized parts symbolises the coordinated timetable, while the colours and patterns represent the diversity of our employees. The combined figures symbolise the merger of the Lucerne–Stans–Engelberg Railway and the SBB Brünig Railway and the creation of something new.

Rolling artwork

Around 400 people keep Zentralbahn running every day. For the anniversary year, they swapped timetables, whistles, pencils and screwdrivers for paint and spray cans for a short time. Working together with Linus von Moos, a graffiti artist from Sarnen, the employees painted 400 individual jigsaw puzzle pieces, which were put together to form a complete work of art, now depicting the diverse catchment area of Zentralbahn on a locomotive. In addition, the train and sales staff will be equipped with ties, foulards and Nicky scarves bearing the design of the artwork from the start of the season in spring. The unique work of art was unveiled at Lucerne station on 17 January 2025.

Linus von Moos’ striking and concise lines are created using worn brushes. Von Moos prefers to work with old, used brushes, as these leave distinctive brushstrokes. A central motif in his works is nature, which he depicts in all its beauty and diversity. This is also reflected in his artwork for Zentralbahn, where patterns, colours and shapes combine to create a harmonious overall image.

Company promise

Our company promise “On the right track” (“Hin und weg”) has moved us and our guests for 20 years. It will also be the theme for our anniversary year. The anniversary celebrations will focus not just on how we move people physically and connect a unique region, but also on the positive emotions associated with our services. Our company promise is a very special incentive for us in our anniversary year.

History

On 1 January 2005, the two traditional railway companies Lucerne–Stans–Engelberg Railway (LSE) and SBB Brünig Railway merged to form Zentralbahn. Technical, economic and financial reasons led to the merger and signalled the start of a far-reaching renewal of the entire company.

The merger brought together two cultures and created new connections. The infrastructure was completely modernised and made much more efficient through extensive new construction projects. At the same time, the rolling stock was standardised and made more efficient with modern, comfortable and low-floor trains. Zentralbahn took over the Meiringen–Innertkirchen Railway in 2021 and has also operated the Meiringen–Innertkirchen line since then. Since the merger, the number of passengers has more than doubled. We are celebrating this success story in 2025.
